Asset class views: our 12- to 18-month outlook

As fundamentals lose momentum worldwide, the U.S. market remains a relative bright spot.

As late-cycle dynamics play out in markets across the globe, we’re inclined to favor U.S. equity’s relatively lower beta and higher-quality profile.

Despite a rebound in stock prices, fundamentals are deteriorating.

We shifted toward a slightly bearish weighting in international equities within a globally diversified portfolio. We currently see a greater concentration of higher-quality businesses in the United States.

Investment-grade corporate and government bonds may outpace lower-rated issues this late in the credit cycle.

Within the asset class, we now favor duration over credit risk. We believe investment-grade corporates still offer upside.
